Asperger Syndrome and auditory sensitivity?

For individuals with AS, is auditory sensitivity so difficult for you that it keeps you from working, enjoying relationships or going out in public? It is for me and the main sounds are screaming kids, barking dogs and fireworks. It seems I read a lot about people w/AS who face these challenges but who work and generally live a good life. I'm curious to hear if you have the sound problem, what sounds and if it keeps you locked in.
