What does it mean when your protection spell backfires?

Me and my friend just recently started studying and doing minor practice of the Wiccan religion. I was hoping those of you who are more advanced in the practice could be of some help to me. Well, me and my friend took some protection procautions last night on our rooms. Mine went over fine. All I did was sprinkle holy water in front of my windows and door, hang a bell above my door, and drew a pentacle over my window and door. She did the same things as I, and she had a "protection jar" buried in her back yard. This was just last night. When she woke from a bad dream at two this morning, she was shocked to find that her room was in shambles. Her clothes had been torn out of her closet, her sacred space that she holds her supplies in had been torn apart, the bell was missing, her protection spell had been ripped to shreds, and her protection jar had been dug up and smashed. Can you tell me what this means? Or offer any advice? Anything would be appreciated. Thanks!
