Why do sadistic people find other people getting hurt things funny?

have you ever been in these situations where during a fight where a group of kids start beating the **** out of one defenseless kid. So then other kids started to cicle around the fight, and some them started to laugh hysterically at the kid getting beating up. My question is why do some find other peoples pain enjoyable and funny?
